A relentless striker with instinctive movement and ice-cold finishing, Völler was one of West Germany’s defining forwards of the 1980s.
1986 World Cup
Völler delivered on the biggest stage in Mexico ’86. He scored the equaliser against Scotland in the group stage, netted a late goal to seal the semi-final win over France, and came off the bench to score in the World Cup final against Argentina. His goal made it 2–2 and cemented his place in history as one of the few substitutes ever to score in a World Cup final.
